While it may seem like a kids book, I think most people who have enjoyed it are adults. No points for guessing where the spider is at that moment. Moer uses progressively larger text for the word crash, till that one word takes up almost the whole page. So when the bear is being chased by a giant spider gaining on him, he can hear the crashing sound of its feet as it gets closer. And the text, well, Moer uses it in a new way as well. Every time you meet a new creature, or place, there is usually a drawing. The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear has the plot of a novel and the spontaneity and humor of a vintage comic book, making it an instant international cult classic.
